Driving Directions:

Entering Charleston

From the North:  Take I-77 or I-79 south to Charleston (I-79 merges into I-77 just north of downtown Charleston).  At the junction of I-77 with I-64, stay in the center or left lane and follow the signs south toward Beckley. Shift to the right lane and take the Exit 99 -- State Capitol/Greenbrier Street/Airport. Turn right off the exit ramp and continue to the first stoplight at Washington Street.

From the South:  Take I-77/I-64 north to Charleston.  As the capitol dome becomes visible, stay in the right lane and take Exit 99 -- State Capitol/Greenbrier Street/Airport.  Turn left off the exit ramp and continue to the second stoplight (at Washington Street).

From the West:   At the junction of I-64 with I-77, stay in the right lane and follow I-64/I-77 south toward Beckley.  After the Broad Street exit, stay in the right lane and take Exit 99 -- State Capitol/Greenbrier Street/Airport. Turn right off the exit ramp and continue to the first stoplight at Washington Street.

Parking

Except when the Legislature is in session, you may turn left at the Washington St. stoplight to park in the metered parking lot next to the Cultural Center.  Stop at the guard house for instructions.  When the Legislature is in session, visitors park on the surrounding streets or at the Laidley Field Parking Lot.

Finding the Office

The Secretary of State's reception area is located off the main hall of the ground floor of  Capitol building, on the end nearest the Cultural Center, Room 157-K.  You will find a double door with flags on each side on your left as you walk from the west entrance of the building toward the rotunda under the dome.
